Our world is not the same as it was only a few months ago. COVID has taken the stage front and center for the past 10 weeks, and most recently, the world witnessed the horrific execution of a black man, George Floyd, in Minneapolis by a police officer. We are hurting. The world is suffering.
What we need to understand is that even though this time in our life is unlike any other we’ve experienced, for many in our black community, their way of life has always been filled with fear of the unexpected just because of the color of their skin. The oppression that our black brothers and sisters have had to endure for centuries is not and has never been okay.
As Paul states in his article, Leadership in Black and White, “…we have tremendous black leaders in every area, but one part of this is not theirs to fix. We need white leaders to take a stand, to speak to white America, and get people to the table.” Black Lives Matter. In the name of Jesus, let’s stop walking away. Let’s stop refusing to account for the fragility of black lives. Now is the time to stand together with the leaders of our country to fight for the injustice that has been going on for far too long.
